Stress:  we all have it!   Conquering stress is all about how you deal with it and let it affect your daily life. There are thousands of books and publications out there that can advise you on how to live a stress-free life.  But, really --- is that possible?  Why don’t we concentrate on doing something about the stress when we are faced with it, rather than paying so much attention to trying to prevent it!

So, how do we overcome the various stressors of life?  How do we compartmentalize personal stress to allow us to thrive professionally?

Here are a few suggestions on how to relieve stress prior to a big audition, performance or gig:

Your Journal is Your Best Friend

Sometimes getting your thoughts out of your head can help to clear the mind and freshen the spirit.  It also helps bring clarity to stressful situations and can prove cathartic before a big event.

Yoga – More than Poses

Yoga has been practiced for over 5,000 years and currently close to 11 million Americans enjoy its health benefits.  In addition to enhancing flexibility, strength and posture, Yoga – especially its meditation techniques – can help lower your heart rate and blood pressure.  Try this before your next audition to get into the right frame of mind!

Exercise – Work it Out!

We know that regular exercise keeps us physically fit, but it also has a profound affect on stress relief.  Exercise – any form of it – pumps endorphins, lowers symptoms associated with depression and anxiety, and even improves sleep!  So, the next time you think you’re too stressed to workout – you should make the time!
