Luis Salgado
Daring to go beyond!
Luis Salgado didn’t know that his passion for the arts would lead him on to a path of adventure to experience his dreams. He started training in public schools and then college. However, his most productive training has been from his work experience on stage since the age of 10. In the past few years Luis has been traveling the world doing what he loves the most, performing. Falling in love with art itself and all its disciplines, Luis has been blessed to work consistently which most performers aspire to achieve.
Luis Salgado keeps dreaming and walking that path of of his dreams. With an intense vision in the optimistic possibilities of art, Luis has developed R. Evolucion Latina, a movement that celebrates human success and growth, in particular of the Latino artists and performers, who with their choices and actions are great role models for others.
Luis Salgado is passionate about R.Evolucion Latina and believes in ‘daring to beyond’. That is exactly what he is doing, and hopes to be doing with aspiring performers. He is helping young artists grow, and do exactly what he did, “Dare to go Beyond!”
| Q: | What prompted you to begin R.Evolución Latina; was it your own experiences that led to its creation? | | A: | Yes. I was affected by an after school program that had a WONDERFUL teacher. We came close to the ARTS, dancing, acting, etc. and at the age of 9 I felt I found who I was and what I wanted. It opened my eyes to so much and it challenged me to do so much of what I never knew I was capable of. Today I am on a Broadway Stage, I have worked for many film projects, and I create my own work. Thinking of it, so much of what I do and who I am is so connected to the first things I learned through the after school program... so HOW DO I GIVE THIS BACK? That was the first question that created the idea of R.Evolución Latina and the concept of DARING TO GO BEYOND. |
| Q: | Your motto is "Dare to go Beyond!"; what does this mean to you, and what do you hope others take from it? | | A: | I believe that we can all challenge ourselves to grow, to step out of our comfort zones. As artists we have the blessing of being requested to be in the moment every single day, every single time. We access a human vulnerability and awareness of our self that not all humans have access to...In the arts we must go beyond. Sometimes we forget and we stick to what we have, what we know, or what is available.. But what happens if we could create a method of philosophy where one artist inspires another and at the same time SHARE a common goal... We think the answer is GROWTH. The same idea GOES beyond when we use the ARTS to empower people that have nothing to do with the arts - we are using art as the EMPOWERING tool to inspire society. This expands to organizations and so on and so forth. DARING TO GO BEYOND is daring to grow, being a part of a R.Evolucion of EVOLUTION.
Mission:
We are a collective of artists and activists committed to empowering the artistic community in order to inspire growth within the Latino Community through collaboration, productions, and educational support programs. |
| Q: | Why do you think it is so important for young students to have organizations such as R.Evolución Latina; do you think you would have benefited from something like it when you were younger? | | A: | I think I had something like this and like I said that is why I am here today doing what I am doing. It's just that it was not based on what it was doing for me, but instead in a regular class... My teacher was GOING BEYOND without knowing it. He really was passionate about every second he spent creating with us... I have just been able to see and decode what was going on beyond dance or acting and make it into a campaign of awareness, collaborating and growth within the arts. So YES... it is MOST important. |
| Q: | For others who are trying to make a difference in the dance community, can you elaborate on how you went about getting R.Evolución Latina going? Was it quick to get off the ground? | | A: | I think first you need to BELIEVE. If you have an idea, believe in it. I got so many NOs for answers when I started this idea. People did not understood how a philosophy could become an organization. I knew what I meant and I stood by it... until I learned how to better explain what the idea was...and with the help of a BRILLIANT team we all found how to get it done. Also, don't be afraid of not knowing...jump into a process of growth where every step is an exciting discovery. With that attitude many things can be achieved. The last thing I guess is that in that process, don’t be afraid to EVOLVE. |
| Q: | If you could only had one sentence to sum up R.Evolución Latina and its mission, what would you say? (remember, only one sentence!) | | A: | A R.Evolution of Evolution looking for a collective growth though the arts. |
