Let’s face it, sometimes it IS who you know. So when you’re a fresh face in a new city, how do you meet the directors, choreographers and casting agents who can potentially hire you?
Some typical advice would be: BE PERSISTANT.
Get yourself out to as many auditions as you can so that your face and most especially your talent, begins to get the recognition it deserves. The more a casting agency or a choreographer sees of you at a dance audition or a vocal audition, the more likely it is that you’ll come to mind when they’re casting projects.
This is sound advice…but there’s more. If you’re pounding the pavement in NYC we can help you take that advice one step further.
Stage Door Connections is a company created to give performers the opportunity to work with creative teams outside of the audition setting. To take the stressful elements of auditioning out of the equation and let Broadway’s top choreographers, directors, musical directors and casting agents see you at your best. Everyone knows how frustrating it can be to feel overlooked at a dance call or to leave a vocal audition wishing they could just hear how you sound in a voice lesson.
The founders of Stage Door Connections recognize how hard it is to make a name for yourself in this business and how the added pressure of an audition doesn’t always allow you to show your best to the people behind the table. They have built a company that allows you to develop the skills and the tools you need to be successful in auditions while learning from the very people with the power to give you the job you’re hoping for.
SDC’s faculty is a who’s who of Broadway’s top choreographers and industry professionals. From Andy Blankenbuehler and Kathleen Marshall to Rob Ashford and Desmond Richardson.
Also creative and casting agencies such as Telsey and Co., Binder Casting, Clear Talent Group and MSA.
Getting individualized feedback and expertise from these choreographers and casting agents is something that has never been available before. Specialized workshops like “The Audition Technique Seminar” give you a leg up on the competition and in many cases allows you to learn the audition combination directly from the choreographers themselves. Not only does this give you the unparalled advantage of hearing exactly what they’re looking for when they hold an audition but it can take some of the stress and anxiety out of auditioning and let you present yourself at your full potential.
SDC offers voice lessons specialized for dancers as well as dance classes specialized for singers giving you the chance to work out the kinks and strengthen your weaknesses in a safe environment without ever feeling like you’re in over your head.
Let Stage Door Connections be the ace in your pocket connecting you to the people you need to know. Hearing the feedback you have always wanted to hear when you walked out of an audition room dissapointed may be just what you need to start booking the jobs.
